NYC is a Japanese boy band formed by Ryosuke Yamada and Yuuri Chinen of Hey! Say! JUMP and Johnny's Jr. Yuma Nakayama in 2010. Before that, seven-members unit NYC Boys (stylized NYC boys) was formed on June 7, 2009, to promote the FIVB World Grand Prix 2009, an event that began on July 31 and ended on August 23, 2009. They performed the theme song "NYC" in Tokyo and Osaka before each game.

History

On June 7, 2009, at the concert "Forum Shinkiroku!! Johnny's Jr. 1 Day 4 Performances Yaruzo!", it was announced that Ryosuke Yamada and Yuri Chinen of Hey! Say! JUMP would join Yuma Nakayama w/B.I.Shadow to form NYC Boys. On July 15, 2009, their first single "NYC/Akuma na Koi", "NYC" being the theme song for the FIVB World Grand Prix 2009, was released. During the announcement for forming NYC Boys, it was said that the group will be a temporary one, only active for the time of the Volleyball Tournament which was from July 31 to August 23, but even after the end of the tournament, the members of the group meet periodically to perform their songs.

In November, the media announced that they would be guest appearing on Japan's highest rated annual music television show, Kōhaku Uta Gassen, on December 31, 2009. Other guest appearances this year include FNS Kayosai on December 2, 2009. On January 1, 2010, media announced that the group would not be a temporary one anymore and that Ryosuke Yamada and Yuuri Chinen would be working as members of both Hey! Say! JUMP and NYC Boys in the future.

On March 3, 2010, it was announced on the Johnny's website that NYC without the boys (B.I.Shadow) will release a new single entitled "Yūki 100%" which is opening theme song for an anime entitled Nintama Rantarō. The coupling song entitled "Yume no Tane" will be the ending theme. Their single was released last April 7, 2010. The said song "Yūki 100%" topped Japan Billboards' Weekly Hot 100 and Oricon's Weekly Chart.

On October 20, 2010, NYC released a single titled Yoku Asobi Yoku Manabe. The single became #1 on the Oricon weekly charts in its first week of sales.

On March 9, 2011, the group released a new single with the name of 'Yume Tamago', which peaked first on the Oricon Daily Singles chart with 31,393 sales and ended up in fourth position on the Oricon Monthly singles chart with 154,140 sales, being certified gold by the RIAJ.

On February 2012, NYC released their 4th single which is titled Wonderful Cupid and contains Yuma Nakayama's solo song Glass no Mahou.

On May 2012, NYC released their 5th single which is titled HAINA!.

Young YamaChii

Hey! Say! JUMP’s Yamada Ryosuke, Make His Solo Debut!!!

It’s been revealed that Hey! Say! JUMP’s Yamada Ryosuke (19) will be making his solo debut.
His debut song, “Mystery Virgin“, has already been picked up as the theme song for Yamada’s starring drama series, ‘Kindaichi Shonen no Jikenbo: Hong Kong Kowloon Zaiho Satsujin Jiken‘.

It’s described as a dance number with a mysterious atmosphere that’s perfect for the drama.
Until now, Yamada has sang and danced to solo songs during the group’s concerts, but this will be the first time it will be released in CD form.

He expressed, “It’s like a dream to be in charge of the theme song for a commemorative program (special drama to commemorate the 60th year since the opening of NTV) by myself. I’m very happy.
Yamada also stars in the musical ‘Johnny’s World‘ at Tokyo Imperial Theater, which commemorates Johnny Kitagawa’s recognition in the Guinness World Records. He declared, “As Hey! Say! JUMP’s Yamada Ryosuke, I want to continue to devote myself and do my best.
This song will be performed for the first time on the live broadcast of NTV’s ‘Ongaku no Saiten: Best Artist 2012‘ on November 28. The single will be released on January 9 of next year.

Hey! Say! JUMP’s Yamada Ryosuke is starring in this special drama series that will mark the beginning of NTV’s 60th Anniversary Celebrations. It was revealed that filming ended in November 7th and also the broadcast time has being decided to be the same for all different parts of Asia for the first time in agency history.

Yamada looked back to the filming in October, “In order to make it similar to the 1st generation, I kept the hairstyle and was also wearing the same uniform Tsuyoshi-kun did”, referring to agency senpai, Domoto Tsuyoshi (KinKi Kids) who dignified him as 4th generation Kindaichi by giving him an “inheritance”.

Set in Hong Kong, action scenes are a brilliant flash of Jackie Chan since the beginning. This cast is among the largest scale cast ever seen. Through difficult tricks, 4th generation Kindaichi tries to challenge the saga.
Inherited by first Kindaichi, Domoto Tsuyoshi , second Kindaichi, Matsumoto Jun (Arashi) and 3rd Kindaichi, Kamenashi Kazuya (KAT-TUN), Yamada proudly stated, “It’s an honor to be involved in something that has so much history”.

He also talked about the attraction of actions scenes, “I tried a scene with skateboarding. I was fired up about including what I had learned in Japan, I’d heard about the cliffs but it was different once I actually saw them. Some of the stunts are done by another person but I worked hard to do as many action scenes as possible on my own”.

Starring Hey! Say! JUMP’s member, Yamada Ryosuke (19), NTV special drama will be broadcasted in New Year next year, “Kindaichi Shonen no Jikenbo”.

Besides Japanese actors Kiritani Kenta (32) and Hey! Say! JUMP member, Arioka Daiki (21), cast also includes; Taiwanese actress Vivian Hsu (37), member of Korean group Big Bang V.I (21), Taiwanese actor Wu Chun (33) and Hong Kong actor Eric Tsang (59), create this an all-asian assemble.

Filming took place in Hong Kong, since September, during that time, bilateral relations over the Senkaku Islands had gotten worse but the bureau reported filming has ended with no trouble.

This time Kindaichi Shonen takes place in a fashion show in Hong Kong, where a series of murders occurred and from there on, the story will challenge the saga. ”I didn’t really feel a language barrier with other actors from Asia. I put a 100% of my strength in this play”, Yamada said with a sense of fulfillment.

Hey! Say! JUMP is a nine-member Japanese idol group under the Japanese talent agency Johnny & Associates. The name Hey! Say! refers to the fact that all the members were born in the Heisei period and JUMP is an acronym for Johnny's Ultra Music Power. Like agency seniors Hikaru Genji and V6, the group is split into two subgroups: Hey! Say! BEST (Boys Excellent Select Team) and Hey! Say! 7 (not to be confused with the temporary group of the same name), which consists of the five oldest members and four youngest members respectively.

History

Early 2007: The Temporary Hey! Say! 7

During a KAT-TUN spring concert on April 3, 2007, Johnny's Juniors Yuya Takaki, Daiki Arioka, Ryosuke Yamada, Yuto Nakajima and Yuri Chinen were named to be part of a new group called Hey! Say! 7. Initially, the temporary status of the group was unclear, worrying a lot of fans of Johnny Jr's group J.J.

On June 16, 2007, it was announced that Hey! Say! 7 would release "Hey! Say!" as a single on August 1, 2007. While the A-side "Hey! Say!" was used as the second opening song for the anime Lovely Complex, the single's B-side "Bon Bon" was used as the second ending song for the same anime. The single went on to sell 120,520 copies in its first week, making the group the youngest male group to top the Oricon singles chart.

Late 2007: Debut of Hey! Say! JUMP

On September 24, 2007, Johnny & Associates announced the formation of Hey! Say! JUMP, the agency's largest group in history. The five members of Hey! Say! 7 were joined by Johnny's Jrs Kota Yabu, Kei Inoo, Hikaru Yaotome, Keito Okamoto and Ryutaro Morimoto, and the ten-member group was split into two subgroups of five based on age. It was also announced that they would make their CD debut on November 14, 2007 with "Ultra Music Power", which was used as Japan's Volleyball World Cup Relay 2007 theme song.

On December 22, 2007, Hey! Say! JUMP held their debut concert "Hey! Say! JUMP Debut & First Concert Ikinari! in Tokyo Dome". They became the youngest group ever to perform in Tokyo Dome with the average age of 15.7 years old.

2008: Members Acting Activities

On April 30, they released their first ever concert DVD Hey! Say! JUMP Debut & First Concert Ikinari! in Tokyo Dome. The group released their second single Dreams Come True on May 21, which topped the Oricon Chart. In July 2008 it was announced that the group's third new single "Your Seed" would be used as the image song for Japanese release of the animated film Kung-Fu Panda. In October 2008, the group released their fourth single "Mayonaka no Shadow Boy", which was used as the theme song for the drama Scrap Teacher starring members Yamada, Nakajima, Arioka and Chinen.

2009-2010: JUMP No. 1

Hey! Say! JUMP released their second DVD Concert Hey! Say! Jump-ing Tour '08-'09 on April 29, 2009.
On February 24, 2010, the group released their fifth single "Hitomi no Screen", which topped the Oricon weekly single charts with 202,000 copies. Hey! Say! JUMP released their first album titled Jump No. 1 on July 7, 2010.

On December 15, 2010, the group released a new single with the name of "Arigatō (Sekai no Doko ni Ite mo)". It reached number one on the Oricon singles chart and sold 64,206 albums on its first day.

2011: Yan Yan JUMP, Morimoto's Suspension and The Smurfs

Hey! Say! JUMP and other Johnny's Juniors are currently starring in a new variety show called Yan Yan JUMP. The show started on April, 16, 2011. It begins at 6:30 JST every Saturday. The name and theme of the show is based on Yan Yan Utau Studio, a program that aired roughly 20 years previously, featuring some of the senior Johnny's members.

The group was surrounded by much controversy on June 28, 2011 after the photos of Morimoto smoking underage were leaked onto the Internet. The following day, in response to the scandal, Johnny's Entertainment issued a statement of apology and planned to suspend Morimoto from all of his activities indefinitely. Following the removal of Morimoto's profile from the official Johnny & Associates website, Johnny Kitagawa himself made an official announcement on the issue. He stated that Morimoto now has ambitions to focus on studying and denied any possibility of him returning soon.

On June 29, 2011, the group released a new single with the name of "Over". It peaked at number one on the Oricon singles chart on its first day with 113,554 sales. This has made it Hey! Say! JUMP's highest selling single since 'Ultra Music Power' as their debut song back in 2007.
On September 21, 2011, they released their eighth single, "Magic Power".This was their first solo without Morimoto, due to the aforementioned smoking scandal and suspension. "Magic Power" was used as the theme for the Japanese dub of the 3D movie "The Smurfs".

2012: International Activities: Asian Tour and "Jump World"

The group held their first Asian tour from March to June, with a series of concerts in Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan. It was also announced that they will be releasing their first single of the year and ninth in all, on February 22, titled "Super Delicate".

On March 15, it was announced that Hong Kong leg tour would be postponed until May and that the Bangkok tour was cancelled respectively due to unknown reason. On the 22nd, it was announced that a new musical called Johnny's World will be produced and directed by Johnny Kitagawa which would start its run at the Imperial Garden Theater during the months of November through December. Hey! Say! JUMP would be the main cast while 100 others would be making an appearance including Kis-My-Ft2, Sexy Zone, A.B.C-Z and Johnny's Jr.. Kamenashi Kazuya, Takizawa Hideaki and Domoto Koichi will be making guest appearance as well.

On April 25, almost two years since the released of their first album Jump No. 1, the group announced that they will released their second album on June 6. The album is called Jump World and it contained their singles from "Arigatō (Sekai no Doko ni Ite mo)" onwards.
Hey! Say! JUMP kicked off their first Asian tour at the Yokohama Arena on 3 May.
