Johnny Kitagawa Achieves His 3rd Guinness World Record

On November 19th it was revealed that president of the agency, Mr. Johnny Kitagawa (81) has been certified with another Guinness World Record, this time as “Most Number of Singers who have achieved the No. 1 position Produced by an Individual “, making this his third Guinness World Record. In addition, one person who has contributed to this Guinness world record, KinKi Kids’ member, Domoto Koichi (33) announced today the production of “Endless SHOCK” (Tokyo Imperial Theater).

Mr. Johnny was watching over the meeting somewhere in the building when the good news was sent. Last year he was awarded with 2 other Guinness World Records; “Most Concerts Produced by an Individual (8,419)” and “Most No.1 Singles Produced by an Individual (232)”, followed by his third, “Most Number of Singers Produced by an Individual who have achieved the No. 1 position (35)”. It was revealed also that among those artist, Domoto Koichi is included to which he commented “I’m also happy for me then”.

The presentation of the certificate was decided in November 14th when a Chairman of Guinness World Records visited Japan. After watching the commemorative production “JOHNNY’S World” (Tokyo Imperial Theater), he handed over the certificate of approval some days later. Just recently, Johnny Kitagawa had stated he wanted to set 1 or 2 more Guinness World Record, all the more reason to feel modest and happy he added, “Keeping the #1 spot is a troublesome thing but as long as they want to keep making music and becoming number one then it’s a natural thing”.

On top of this happy announcement, there’s still the grieve over the death of Mori Mitsuko (92) who passed away just recently. “I was surprised to hear she passed away. I don’t want to remember. Like family, we were really close. Even now I feel like she’s here. I think we all feel that way”.

However, to overcome this grief, Mr Johnny has decided to aim for his 4th Guinness World Record, “Michael has more than 7, right? I think is important to set new records. While defending the 3 records we have, it’s important to always keep challenging new ones”. The challenge of this 81-year-old continues.

Hey! Say! JUMP Received a Guiness Award During Johnny's World

On Nov 12th, Yamada Ryosuke, Kota Yabu, and other members of Hey!Say!JUMP, A.B.C.-Z, and Sexy Zone, who appeared in the stage production of Johnny’s World, attended the press conference after their performance at Imperial Theater, Tokyo.

Johnny’s World is the commemorative work of Johnny Kitagawa for being the recipient of Guinness World of Records for “most number of concerts produced” last year. “I feel honored to be on Johnny’s World stage that is a culmination of Johnny’s talents that Johnny-san has built,” Yamada commented.

Yamada also feels proud from the positive response that they are receiving, “when I think about our final performance, I think there’s a lot of change from us and that we continue to evolve every day,” he added.
Johnny’s World will run until Jan 27th next year wherein talents behind Johnny’s World talents will be spending Christmas and New Year together.

When ABC-Z’s Fumito Kawai suggested that they do Christmas exchanged gifts, Yamada then demanded that Fumito should give them (the younger ones) a  New Year’s present since Fumito is older. “Age? It should be carried-out as to who debuted first,” Fumito replied that earned laughter among the group.

Hey! Say! JUMP is a nine-member Japanese idol group under the Japanese talent agency Johnny & Associates. The name Hey! Say! refers to the fact that all the members were born in the Heisei period and JUMP is an acronym for Johnny's Ultra Music Power. Like agency seniors Hikaru Genji and V6, the group is split into two subgroups: Hey! Say! BEST (Boys Excellent Select Team) and Hey! Say! 7 (not to be confused with the temporary group of the same name), which consists of the five oldest members and four youngest members respectively.

History

Early 2007: The Temporary Hey! Say! 7

During a KAT-TUN spring concert on April 3, 2007, Johnny's Juniors Yuya Takaki, Daiki Arioka, Ryosuke Yamada, Yuto Nakajima and Yuri Chinen were named to be part of a new group called Hey! Say! 7. Initially, the temporary status of the group was unclear, worrying a lot of fans of Johnny Jr's group J.J.

On June 16, 2007, it was announced that Hey! Say! 7 would release "Hey! Say!" as a single on August 1, 2007. While the A-side "Hey! Say!" was used as the second opening song for the anime Lovely Complex, the single's B-side "Bon Bon" was used as the second ending song for the same anime. The single went on to sell 120,520 copies in its first week, making the group the youngest male group to top the Oricon singles chart.

Late 2007: Debut of Hey! Say! JUMP

On September 24, 2007, Johnny & Associates announced the formation of Hey! Say! JUMP, the agency's largest group in history. The five members of Hey! Say! 7 were joined by Johnny's Jrs Kota Yabu, Kei Inoo, Hikaru Yaotome, Keito Okamoto and Ryutaro Morimoto, and the ten-member group was split into two subgroups of five based on age. It was also announced that they would make their CD debut on November 14, 2007 with "Ultra Music Power", which was used as Japan's Volleyball World Cup Relay 2007 theme song.

On December 22, 2007, Hey! Say! JUMP held their debut concert "Hey! Say! JUMP Debut & First Concert Ikinari! in Tokyo Dome". They became the youngest group ever to perform in Tokyo Dome with the average age of 15.7 years old.

2008: Members Acting Activities

On April 30, they released their first ever concert DVD Hey! Say! JUMP Debut & First Concert Ikinari! in Tokyo Dome. The group released their second single Dreams Come True on May 21, which topped the Oricon Chart. In July 2008 it was announced that the group's third new single "Your Seed" would be used as the image song for Japanese release of the animated film Kung-Fu Panda. In October 2008, the group released their fourth single "Mayonaka no Shadow Boy", which was used as the theme song for the drama Scrap Teacher starring members Yamada, Nakajima, Arioka and Chinen.

2009-2010: JUMP No. 1

Hey! Say! JUMP released their second DVD Concert Hey! Say! Jump-ing Tour '08-'09 on April 29, 2009.
On February 24, 2010, the group released their fifth single "Hitomi no Screen", which topped the Oricon weekly single charts with 202,000 copies. Hey! Say! JUMP released their first album titled Jump No. 1 on July 7, 2010.

On December 15, 2010, the group released a new single with the name of "Arigatō (Sekai no Doko ni Ite mo)". It reached number one on the Oricon singles chart and sold 64,206 albums on its first day.

2011: Yan Yan JUMP, Morimoto's Suspension and The Smurfs

Hey! Say! JUMP and other Johnny's Juniors are currently starring in a new variety show called Yan Yan JUMP. The show started on April, 16, 2011. It begins at 6:30 JST every Saturday. The name and theme of the show is based on Yan Yan Utau Studio, a program that aired roughly 20 years previously, featuring some of the senior Johnny's members.

The group was surrounded by much controversy on June 28, 2011 after the photos of Morimoto smoking underage were leaked onto the Internet. The following day, in response to the scandal, Johnny's Entertainment issued a statement of apology and planned to suspend Morimoto from all of his activities indefinitely. Following the removal of Morimoto's profile from the official Johnny & Associates website, Johnny Kitagawa himself made an official announcement on the issue. He stated that Morimoto now has ambitions to focus on studying and denied any possibility of him returning soon.

On June 29, 2011, the group released a new single with the name of "Over". It peaked at number one on the Oricon singles chart on its first day with 113,554 sales. This has made it Hey! Say! JUMP's highest selling single since 'Ultra Music Power' as their debut song back in 2007.
On September 21, 2011, they released their eighth single, "Magic Power".This was their first solo without Morimoto, due to the aforementioned smoking scandal and suspension. "Magic Power" was used as the theme for the Japanese dub of the 3D movie "The Smurfs".

2012: International Activities: Asian Tour and "Jump World"

The group held their first Asian tour from March to June, with a series of concerts in Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan. It was also announced that they will be releasing their first single of the year and ninth in all, on February 22, titled "Super Delicate".

On March 15, it was announced that Hong Kong leg tour would be postponed until May and that the Bangkok tour was cancelled respectively due to unknown reason. On the 22nd, it was announced that a new musical called Johnny's World will be produced and directed by Johnny Kitagawa which would start its run at the Imperial Garden Theater during the months of November through December. Hey! Say! JUMP would be the main cast while 100 others would be making an appearance including Kis-My-Ft2, Sexy Zone, A.B.C-Z and Johnny's Jr.. Kamenashi Kazuya, Takizawa Hideaki and Domoto Koichi will be making guest appearance as well.

On April 25, almost two years since the released of their first album Jump No. 1, the group announced that they will released their second album on June 6. The album is called Jump World and it contained their singles from "Arigatō (Sekai no Doko ni Ite mo)" onwards.
Hey! Say! JUMP kicked off their first Asian tour at the Yokohama Arena on 3 May.
