Tex Saverio: Building a Fashion Empire
Looking like a character straight out of a manga comic, couture designer Tex Saverio seems to be out of place in Jakarta.
Clad in a black suit, his jet-black straight hair reaches his shoulder as bangs descend to his eyes from his right-side parting. His dark brown eyes are lined with a black dash, while his face is sleek and his complexion fair.
Tex Saverio is a name not easily spelled by many Indonesians, let alone pronounced.
“I’m Jakartan born and bred, a totally local product. Peculiar as it is, Tex Saverio is my real name,” he said with a smile as he sat in a chic bistro in South Jakarta recently.
The 28-year-old designer was still excited after US television personality Kim Kardashian wore a dress he designed for a photo shoot in early February. The shoot was said to be used in the March edition of US Elle magazine.
“The dress was one of the designs I presented during last year’s Jakarta Fashion Week. I had only a very short amount of time to prepare it for Kim but I’m glad it turned out to be very satisfying,” he said.
Tex attracted the attention of fashionistas and became a sensation at the 2010 Jakarta Fashion Week when he first staged his haute couture collection of “La Glacon”.
His edgy yet theatrical and ornate creations awed fashion lovers and many of them compared his designs to those by the late British designer Alexander McQueen.
The lime light then shone on Tex again when his black tulle gown, embroidered with silk organdy and taffeta embellishments, was donned by pop diva Lady Gaga in the May edition of US Harper’s Bazaar last year.

Tex’s
journey into the fashion world began a little over a decade ago when he
decided to quit his education to pursue his passion. He recalled the
decision was a tough one for his parents to take.
“I was enrolled at senior high school SMAK 1 BPK Penabur in West Jakarta, which was one of Jakarta’s elite schools. Getting admitted to the school was very difficult and my parents thought that I had wasted the chance.”
“But I told them that I didn’t want to waste any more time. I knew where I wanted to go. I asked for their support and fortunately, they understood and gave their blessings,” he said.
Tex later studied fashion at the Bunka School of Fashion in Jakarta, before taking an apprenticeship with the Phalie Studio, under a mentor whom Tex’s called Miss Patricia.
“I learned a lot from her. It was some tough learning. She directed me to always look for other aspects, other sides of fashion, to not get stuck with what already existed.”
Tex is now preparing another giant step in his life and career for the launch of his global ready-to-wear collection in 2014.
“To have a globally successful label is the dream of all designers, including me. Considering the dynamic and positive developments of the fashion industry in Indonesia, I think it’s high time for Indonesian designers to go global,” said the designer, who will turn 29 this August.
He said the ready-to-wear collection posed challenges in terms of designing and manufacturing processes.
“My designs are characterized by drama and fantasy, with intricate details. My ready-to-wear collection should maintain the Tex Saverio DNA but is interpreted as something more down to earth and wearable,” he said.
For his project, Tex teamed up with his siblings Faye and Warren, who have decades of family experience in the apparel trading and manufacturing industry.
“We are targeting to make my ready-to-wear collection available for the upscale market in the US and Europe, but we are going to put more focus on the Asian market,” he said.
He expects the new direction to be the start of a larger plan. “We are planning to have our own cosmetic line, perfume collections and the like in the years to come.”
“The House of Saverio will not only be an Indonesian fashion brand, but will also be a global lifestyle brand. It’s going to be an empire,” he said.

Nakamaru Yuichi successfully graduates from Waseda University!
On March 26th, KAT-TUN member, Nakamaru Yuichi (29) graduated from Waseda University Faculty of Human Sciences. He enrolled in the said school in April 2008.
The graduation ceremony was held in Waseda University (campus located
in Shinjuku, Tokyo) at 10:00am. Nakamaru attended wearing a crested
kimono in order to get his diploma. “I only realized I was graduating
until I received this. I was moved. To me, at the time, graduating
seemed a little impossible since I entered university 6 years after
graduating high school, I was happy with just attending back then”.
Over the past few weeks Nakamaru was rumored to be dating Katase Nana
(31), after being spotted together at midnight by some weekly magazine.
Nakamaru flatly denied dating her, he said they just happened to grab
some dinner together. Nakamaru said with a smile “I, myself thought
‘majissuka?’ (Tsuichi’s catch-phrase). We just happened to had some
dinner. I am so sorry for causing trouble to Ms. Katase. We are not
dating”. In addition, “Katase is a woman I can rely one, a dependable
older sister. When I arrived to the set Nakayama Hideyuki told me, ‘why didn’t you invite me instead?’”, causing laughter among the reporters.
Nakamaru is the first member of the agency to graduate from Waseda
University. Over the past 5 years, he has learned about welfare and what
the environment has to offer while balancing work and writing his
thesis, a 37,000 characters letter based on the theme “Localization of
dark music”, getting the highest grade, and A+.
During this ceremony 12,000 people also graduated. Since Nakamaru
took classes online in his PC at work or home he did not get to attend
the campus even once, he kept complaining, “I couldn’t make any
friends”.

Wink Up March, 2013 Hey!Say!7 CrossTalk Translation♥
“I’m sorry, I have overestimated myself a little (laughs)”
Nakajima: They said that today’s theme is “What if we made a party with fans”
Okamoto: No, no, no, no, impossible, impossible, impossible, impossible. I can’t help but feel sad because I know it’ll end up being a “Gathering of only Yama-chan is cool” (laughs) It’s not worth me participating. No, no, no, no, definitely impossible!
Yamada:….(forces a smile)
Nakajima: Such negativity at the very beginning (laughs)
Okamoto: It’s because if Yama-chan says or does something cool even the other member’s fans end up saying “Yama-chan, how cool you are!” The difference between Yama-chan and I is like this (he opens his arms high, one above the other)
Chinen: (with a sweet voice) no, no, it’s not like that Keito. (Takes Keito’s arms and spreads them even higher) something like that (laughs)
Okamoto: !
Everyone: hahahaha!
Okamoto: I’m sorry…seems like I overestimated myself a bit (laughs)
Yamada: What should I do since Keito values me so much? (laughs) I’ve told you before that I’m not that popular!
Chinen: Well, Ryosuke is the kind of person that if you tell him you want something, he’ll get whatever it is for you.
Yamada: Hey, don’t say that (laughs) But it’s true that perhaps I have a generous point. Among us, Keito and I are the generous ones, yeah?
Chinen: (as he looks at Keito’s belly) and so it seems. Yup, that’s what it seems like! (T/N: In Japanese “generous” is also read as “fat belly”. Chinen is making a pun)
Okamoto: I don’t think he’s referring to that meaning (laughs)
Yamada: when I see Keito, I think he’s great. He has a generous side and on the inside he’s really masculine.
Nakajima: hey, why have the two of you been praising one another since a little while ago? (laughs)
Okamoto: A little while ago, I learned about the men called “warikan” in a magazine. (T/N: Men who split the check at the moment of paying) Having to split the check to the smallest yen is really a bother!
Nakajima: it’s true that it’s really a bother. Something like “You payed for me the last time, so I’ll pay for you today…” kind of thing is good right?
Chinen: well, I don’t pay a single yen!
Yamada: You can say that, but on the contrary you feel good don’t you (laughs)
Okamoto: at the cash register, you see many scenarios where women say things like “I’ll pay today” “It’s not necessary!” “No, no!” right? (laughs)
Everyone: ahhh~ yes! Yes!
Yamada: that’s impossible for me!
Chinen: Right??? If you tell me, “I’ll pay today” then I’d say “ah, well, thanks!” and that’s that.
Yamada: How fast. At least insist you’ll pay once (laulghs) But even if you say those kinds of things, it’s all a joke. In reality, Chinen has payed for me before. Even expensive soba.
Nakajima: That’s true. He’s payed for me too.
Chinen: This can’t be. Don’t destroy the character’s image!
Okamoto: What kind of character did you want to show? (laughs)
Earnestly singing together as 4 would be really embarrassing! (laughs)
Chinen: hahaha. If the other person is a girl, then it’d come out normally! But if it was with someone that’s here today, who would be in charge of taking the lead and picking a restaurant?
Nakajima: Perhaps it’d be me? Even if it’s me saying it, I get the impression that I’d be able to do it well (laughs)
Chinen: You seem to be the kind of person that’d map out the restaurant, search on the internet and send the info to the rest.
Yamada: Today’s clothing choice shows it. Yuto-kun can do it well (laughs) He seems to know about restaurants with style. One that can play jazz music.
Nakajima: Wait a minute. If the background music is jazz, then wouldn’t it be difficult to get excited? They’d think that I can’t read the atmosphere! (laughs) Since we’re still under aged, the best choice would be a cheerful restaurant where we can have good food, no?
Chinen: I suppose. If it’s difficult for you to pick a restaurant, you can ask Yuya. He’s a strong searcher for restaurants (laughs) I can’t imagine at all how Ryosuke would be like in a situation like that one. He’d be like the usual Ryosuke, a timid version of Ryosuke
Yamada: It’s also a mystery for me (laughs) But it might be a shy/timid version? Even in school, to the very end, I was shy with girls (laughs)
Nakajima: That’s true, that’s how it was. I think the girls thought of you as a cold guy.
Yamada: It’s not that I was cold, simply, I was shy (laughs) If Keito and I both thought “that girl looks good~” we’d both be the type to say “oh well, I give up”, right?
Okamoto: yeah, yeah! Even if we had hopes, we’d most likely give up.
Chinen: Eh, really? If I thought a girl was good, I’d end up talking to her
Yamada: But if I told you “I think that girl looks good”, Chinen would end up giving up.
Chinen: ah~ that’s possible. Peace comes first (laughs)
Yamada: I can’t say about Yuto though (laughs)
Nakajima: Yeah. If I imagine myself in that situation, I can say that I would actively do…nothing.
Chinen: I can imagine Yutti smiling uncomfortably when a girl gets close to him (laughs)
Nakajima: I think that’s better than me actually trying to attract them. I don’t have confidence in myself. Or in other words…I’m scared (laughs)
Okamoto: Yuto and I are alike. Both are very negative (laughs)
Chinen: The staff has asked “What would you do if you went to Karaoke with girls and they asked you to sing JUMP songs?”
Everyone: No way!
Yamada: Singing earnestly among the 4 would be seriously embarrassing! (laughs)
Nakajima: It’d be impossible to sing earnestly
Yamada: But the Mayonaka song, it’s really popular isn’t it? Be it men or women, young or old.
Nakajima: yeah yeah! They ask for it a lot. But if I said “shadow~” earnestly during karaoke, it’d be really embarrassing (laughs)
Yamada: no, no (laughs) But if that situation did happen, what can we sing?
Okamoto: “Tsunagu Te to Te”
Nakajima: That one is meant to sing earnestly! (laughs)
Yamada: That one is meant to sing with a lot of emotion (laughs)
Chinen: and casually, you take the girl’s hand…something like that right? (laughs)
Chinen looks like the type that despite going out with someone for 3 months, he won’t tell us anything (laughs)
Yamada: It’s something improvised, but it’s not bad (laughs) Right now, we’re all working on a 3 month long stage play, but the wanting to fall in love is still there. Even if I’m only occupied with this, we can’t stop thinking, “Now it’d be great if we could fall in love~”
Chinen: It’s one of the topics that we talk about a lot in the dressing room. Things like “I like girls like this…” or “I want to have this kind of relationship”, they’re all fantasies (laughs) If you really got a girlfriend, would you announce it?
Nakajima: Chinen looks like the type that despite going out with someone for 3 months, he won’t tell us anything (laughs)
Chinen: It’s true, I think that’s how it’d be. Once I’m sure of our relationship, I’d want to tell everyone.
Nakajima: ah~ now that we’re talking about types, I’d probably be the same.
Okamoto: But if you had someone you liked, wouldn’t you want to talk about things like “She told me this, what do you think it means?” things that would put you nervous?
Nakajima: No, I don’t think I’d be able to. I think there are obsessive points about me that get serious. Besides, I’m also the type that goes all in when it comes to my interests, that’s why, if its love I don’t think I’d be able to see anything or anyone else but that person and that scares me.
Yamada: Yuto-kun has a side to him like that! But I really do think he’s the kind of person to take what he likes seriously. It’s the same with his addiction to photography. Just a little while ago I told him, “If it’s about photography, ask me for advice”. “Eh, do you want lenses? When are you using it? You can’t use another? You really like it? How much is it? It’s expensive. Leave it for now” “Do you want a tripod? You didn’t have one till now? It’s basic for photography. No? Alright, buy it.” (Laughs)
Okamoto: He has so much energy. When there’s someone that I like, I’ll ask Yama-chan for advice.
Yamada: Alright~ I’ll advice you~ Something like “Now, you can’t leave work aside, so love is prohibited” (laughs)
Nakajima: hahaha but it’s true. He’s the type of person that get’s completely absorbed. That’s why he has to tell himself, “I can’t fall in love now!”
Chinen: That determination is also a serious point (laughs) If I got a girlfriend, or something, I wonder what I’d do. Would it show in my work? I don’t know!
Okamoto: I don’t want to mix it with things related to work. Even if they reject me, even if I was really depressed, I wouldn’t like it if it was shown through my work. But, honestly, I think it’d end up showing (laughs)
Yamada: Keito, Yuto-kun and I are comrades. If our hearts got broken, perhaps we’d take those feelings all the way to the dressing room…no, perhaps all the way until before we went out on stage (laughs) But while on stage, we’d change completely!
Nakajima: I’ve wondered this for a while but, Yama-chan and Keito are really alike. They have many points in common.
Okamoto: Well yeah, but in the end (opens his arms again) we’re this different (laughs)
Chinen: oh yeah,
Okamoto: Now what?! (laughs)
Chinen: this one (he touches the top hand) is Keito
Everyone: jajaja!
Okamoto: True, it is like that. In the end, it has become this…I love you, Chinen (laughs)
Yamada: And this is how we end up, Chinen! I’m sorry, but I really do believe it now (laughs) Well if that really was the case and Keito was more popular than me, then all I’d have to do is do my best.
Okamoto: Oh no! Yama-chan getting serious…after all, I really can’t win (laughs)
